Obsession Analysis Part 2
Welcome Back Readers
Wow, it has been a while but let's get this finish. I will pick up from where I left off. After Bear uses the wish, Nikki comes back out and tries to invite him into her house, acting all weird. She says stuff like "my cat died" when it was Bear's cat who died and tells Bear her dad has cancer. Nikki is acting very strange but they end up going to Bear's place where things get even stranger. Nikki tells him that the place smells like him and wants them to sleep in the same bed. They end up kissing but Nikki freaks out which leads to Bear sleeping on a mattress while Nikki sleeps in his bed. The next day at work, Nikki can't stop staring at Bear which leads Bear to tell Ian about everything. Ian says it's probably due to her being on Molly again and doesn't put too much stock into anything Bear says. There is a reason why Ian acts this way in response to what Bear is telling him but that is revealed later in the film. That night, Nikki shows up and confronts Bear about taking advantage of her. To which Bear replies that he didn't take advantage of her and she agrees, correcting herself. She claims her actions were due to the Molly she was taking and tells Bear that she likes him. Now begins their relationship, which seems to be going well until Ian calls Bear during one of their dates. During the call, Ian tells Bear that Nikki's father does not have cancer and starts talking about how weird she's been acting. During this whole time, Nikki has been watching Bear. The next part is the most famous scene from the movie.
I'm going to stop recapping after discussing this scene, so please watch the movie before reading the rest, it becomes very scary as the movie progresses. Bear returns to the table and asks Nikki if she loves him, to which she replies that she loves him more than anyone in the entire world, just like what he wished for. Bear then asks if her father really has cancer, which causes Nikki to freak out and repeatedly say no and ask why it matters since they were having a nice day. Bear tries to calm Nikki down and tells her it does not matter, after which we are shown what is probably the most disturbing scene in the whole movie. The reason why this scene is so important, is because it shows us what Bear is willing to ignore just to have his dream girl. One might think Nikki is the obsessed one, when it is really Bear. As the movie progresses, we see just how obsessed Bear is. Even when Nikki watches him as he sleeps, even when she ducktapes the door shut, even when she feeds him his dead cat. Despite all of it, Bear bears it. People think Sarah's death was the turning point, but no. I never realized this when watching the film, but Bear buys two one wish willows on his second time in the store. There is a reason he asked Ian to wish that he never made his wish. Bear still wanted to use the one wish willow to control Nikki, he just disliked how she was acting. Even when Nikki stabs herself in the face, Bear feels no concern towards her. One thing I find really bizarre is how Nikki was able to make a shrine for and also cook the cat. How he treated his cat says a lot about Bear. He cared not when it died, using it only to get sympathy when he wasn't getting the attention he wanted from Nikki. Throwing the remains of the cat in the trash multiple times is a lot as well. He threw away the cat like it was garbage. His obsession with Nikki overshadows everything else to him. This obsession also overshadowed the desires of Nikki and safety of his friends. When Nikki begs Bear to kill her in her sleep, Bear asks if it's so bad being with him. To which Nikki replies that she's never been with him. Despite knowing that who he is with is not the real Nikki, it does not matter to him. That night, he goes to see Sarah which results in her getting killed by Nikki. When this happens, instead of telling anyone, Bear helps her get rid of the body. When he finds out Nikki and Ian were hooking up for several years now, he gets angry at Ian which leads to Ian not making the wish he wants. Even at the end, Bear tries to throw up the pills he swallowed, because he wants to avoid accountability. This is why I believe the title of the movie refers to Bear and not Nikki.
Well this was a fun write. Next time I write, I will be going back to something in my own life. This is because I do not have too much time to watch movies. Although I did watch the new spiderman. Maybe I will write something about that, but for now, adios.
